Interview with Inna about Creative Camp: ”The Young and Fresh Artists Boosted my Energy Levels”

Inna is the best-known Romanian pop artist. She’s topped national and international charts for over 13 years. Within glo Creative Camp, Inna took on the role of mentor for the Disco Week. We talked with her about the week spent in Tuzla, about how she manages to stay on top of Romanian pop music and about the benefits of a recording session outside the city:

How was your Creative Camp experience?

It was an exciting experience! This is what happens when you do what you love and especially when you share your passion for music with friends. We had a super-creative session with my colleagues from Global Records: Viky Red, Cezar Guna, Florian Rus, IRA and Quick. We recorded some hot tracks. In addition, I got to meet young and fresh artists who boosted my energy levels.

I know you organized such recording sessions in secluded places in Romania. Do you like to isolate yourself from society when you work on your music?

Indeed, we organized Dance Queen’s House last year, a three-week-long session during which I isolated myself in a house with a couple of music producer and writer friends and completed a new 10-track album, Heartbreaker. It really was a super-productive session. I like to organize such events, because we can disconnect from everyday life in a place where music is the only priority. And it’s nice because you get to set your creativity free.

You were born in Mangalia. Would you say that the environment helped you find your inspiration for the music you wanted to perform?

I was actually born in Neptun, and went to school in Mangalia. I’m not sure how much the environment influenced my music, but I know for sure that the freedom and joy of living are also inspired by the sea.

Did you enjoy your role of mentor for the young artists at Creative Camp?

I never take such titles too seriously. But I want to believe that I can honestly and generously share a part of my 13 years’ experience as an artist spent on stages at home and abroad, in studios from across the Globe where I got to meet and work with some of the most talented people in the industry. But yes, I enjoyed meeting them, sharing my experiences with them, and teaching some of the things that I know.

In your opinion, which was the most valuable lesson that they learned from you?

I think they should answer this question! The lesson I think people who know me should learn from me is that they should believe in and fight for their dreams. I think I’m a good example that dreams come true!

Speaking of advice, you’ve stayed on top of the Romanian charts for over 10 years. What is the main ingredient contributing to your success?

Work, work, work and perseverance. A team with whom I have worked, dreamt, and believed for over 13 years.

Did you have a mentor who helped you with your career?

My mother and my grandmother were the first people in my life who had a connection with music, I inherited this passion from them. Then it was Lucian, my manager, who believed in me even in times when I had lost all hope.

You are one of the busiest Romanian pop artists. I’m curious if you are up to date with new Romanian music? Have you discovered a promising artist or band recently? Amuly told me in an interview that you listen to his music.

I listen to as much music as I can, that I discover myself or that is recommended to me by my friends or Toto. Yes, I listen to Amuly, PRNY, Oscar, there are also new and fresh artists signed by Global Records that I listen to and support: wrs, EMAA.

Nature is our dance floor

That’s why when the party is over, the only footprint left behind has to be a positive one. At Electric Castle, we believe that sustainability shouldn’t be a one-hit wonder but an all-timer. Our efforts are sustained and constant for each edition to be more environmentally friendly.
