Yves Tumor: When it’s easier to get the music than the artist.

An artist that can hardly be defined and understood, one that stays behind an ambiguous voice and avoids interviews. Yves Tumor fascinates the entire world of experimental electronic music. All the answers can be found in his music, and you have the chance to listen to it live on July 14, at Electric Castle 8.

A self-made enigma

We don’t know many things about  Yves Tumor, as a person or artist. Our gut tells us that he doesn’t want to ruin the mystery around him, as it’s part of the charm. He doesn’t like giving interviews, and even on the few he does,  there are no juicy details. Real name? Sean Bowie - the odd coincidence is that  David Bowie was hard to get as well, at least at the beginning of his career.

Ambiguity makes it more attractive, especially these days, when we can find out everything about the musicians’ lives. Well, not about Yves Tumor, who reminds us of the good old times. Plus, by staying in the dark, he drives all our attention towards music.

Composing creepy-catchy music

The experimental artist Yves Tumor can’t be put in a box. His albums are a mix of electronic, rock, pop, funk, lo-fi, and chillwave influences. At 17, he started playing Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin on bass, acoustic and electric guitars. Then he moved to keyboards and music production.

You can get a sense of this diversity in his music as well through many bizarre and catchy moments, but just enough not to go too extreme. It’s not a “difficult” to understand kind of music, but relatively accessible - not only due to its structure but also because of the deep emotions that just can’t be berried under abstract and claustrophobic sounds.

The newest album is the most accessible yet

Unlike other materials, the newest album, launched in 2020, is straightforward, with almost commercial rhythms. This doesn’t mean that Tumor is giving up his strange approach. We’re talking about avant-gardist pop, something unusual even for the most forward-thinking artists of today. “Heaven To A Tortured Mind” is also the perfect description for his music.

Unpredictable shows

You don’t want to miss this performance in Bonțida. Expect a show as chaotic as the music. Organized chaos, but still chaos. During his shows, sometimes he would start a public fight, not because of a conflict, but to just let it out. Other times, fans would make a circle around him and watch in fear, which is not the desired outcome as he just enjoys interacting with the audience.

You never know what to expect from Yves Tumor and that’s the best part.

Electric Castle 8: Something bold, something new, something to borrow and share too.

The wait is over. Along with the headliners that were already confirmed last year, Gorillaz, Twenty One Pilots and Deftones, it’s time to find out who are the other artists we’ll see at EC8. We’ll be back at the Castle, with a complete and surprising line-up.

Mdou Moctar: An African dream became reality

When you are born in the center of Niger, you have minimum chances of becoming well-known in Europe and the USA. But the odds were on Mdou Moctar’s side, the "Jimi Hendrix of Sahara”, who exceeded all expectations and became the most important name for African rock music.

Nature is our dance floor

That’s why when the party is over, the only footprint left behind has to be a positive one. At Electric Castle, we believe that sustainability shouldn’t be a one-hit wonder but an all-timer. Our efforts are sustained and constant for each edition to be more environmentally friendly.
