The Own The Stage competition, which offers young Romanian artists the chance to perform or mix for the first time at Electric Castle has now reached the fifth edition. Up until now, 14 Romanian bands have performed on the festival’s stage thanks to your wish to see them live in Bonțida. The selection is made following a free vote and so far EC fans haven’t disappointed. Take a quick look at the past winning acts and you’ll understand what I’m talking about.

Own The Stage doesn’t only offer the opportunity to perform at Electric Castle. It is also a launch pad for highly gifted bands you have probably never heard of. Before the start of this year’s edition of Own The Stage, which will give you the opportunity to vote for your favourite new talents, here are several examples of Romanian acts associated with the competition:

The Kryptonite Sparks

They won the Own The Stage competition in 2015 together with other kickass bands such as Brum or Stema. From that moment on, they’ve been on a growing trend. They perform regularly, they even headline national tours. As a warm up act, they always perform in the opening of very well known bands like Vița de Vie or Implant Pentru Refuz. The best thing about them is that they’re a fusion of indie rock, alternative rock and funk-rock. They are very versatile people, which makes them very popular. It’s no surprise they won, then.

Are You Anywhere

The second edition was won by Are You Anywhere and Toy Machines. Both are the real deal, but Are You Anywhere enjoyed a bigger success. And it wasn’t just a momentary thing. For instance, these guys’ newest single has reached 100k views in just three months. They remained in the focus of the underground world due to their highly catchy electro-pop songs.

Am Fost la Munte și Mi-a Plăcut

These guys don’t write catchy songs. At least not in the classical sense. They don’t follow the usual pop recipes or traditional song structures. They are a post-rock band, which is a genre that you need to feel, rather than sing along to. Anyway, the important thing is to resonate with their music, and this is exactly what happened in 2017, when they had the chance to perform for the first time at Electric Castle. They took full advantage of the occasion and this year they will be back to perform on the Hangar stage.

Maru

And while we’re on the topic of returns, Maru is the winner of last year’s contest. Her performance was so good that she will perform this year as well. And she was alone on stage. With a guitar. This is what owning the stage is all about, man. Whoever wins this year, they should definitely talk to Maru. She will tell them a thing or two about making your debut at a festival with straight A’s.
